Springtime is the perfect time for projects! More specifically pallet projects! We recently came across two spring projects that used wood pallets in unique ways. At The Nelson Company we are always impressed with creative non-shipping uses for wood and plastic pallets. This first project was created for a roof top deck in the Federal Hill neighborhood of downtown Baltimore, Maryland. This rooftop bench was created using 16 wooden pallets that were cut down to fit the space. They were sanded and white washed. Next the pallets were stacked on top of each other and raised up on pavers. Some of the pallets were even cut into half sizes to create the back of the L-shaped bench. The seat cushion was handmade and accented by colorful throw pillows. This bench is the perfect spot for people (and dogs) to enjoy a cook out or relax in the summer sun. Our second pallet project is this garden. Rows of tasty vegetables were planted in the space between the pallet’s deckboards. The photo on the left was taken just after the lettuce, peppers, and other veggies were planted at the end of April. The photo on the right was taken three days ago of the garden. It is flourishing and its creators are already enjoying lettuce from this backyard pallet garden.
