With so many plastic pallet sizes how do you know which one is right for you? Your decision likely begins with your industry. In most cases, industry standards for pallet sizes were established at a time when wooden pallets were your only shipping option. Using industry-specific sizes is not necessarily a requirement, but you'll find that they are among the most commonly used. For that reason, the highest-volume standard wood pallet sizes are also manufactured in plastic. Today, shipping products with plastic pallets has become more commonplace and in some cases required. Why are plastic pallets so popular? You can easily get the required size for your industry while enjoying the cleanliness, durability and reduced product damage offered by plastic. Plastic Pallet Sizes By Industry The most common size in the US is the 48x40 plastic pallet. The chart below lists the most common plastic pallet sizes and the industries they serve:
When industries use a standard pallet size, it helps reduce ...
Maxing Out a Truckload: One reason to have a standard pallet is to max out the freight within a truck in order to ship as little air as possible and reduce costs. Matching the Footprint: Another important reason is to match the footprint of the product that is being shipped, to the dimensions of the pallet. This allows a more uniform unit load and reduced product damage. Standing Out in the Crowd: Some industry pallet sizes were created to differentiate them from the more popular pallet sizes out in the market. If the pallet is smaller or bigger than a commonly used size, it will not be as much of a target for pallet theft because the size difference may make it unusable in another industry.
